WRITEUP
CAPESIZE
The market opened the week on a softer footing in the Pacific, while the Atlantic was subdued as both Owners and Charterers took a step back to assess the market following the stronger finish to last week. The BCI 182 5TC decreased by $1,283 to $57,011. In the Pacific, the C5 index dropped 0.748 to $18.210. Activity was relatively limited, with two miners in the market. Offers were initially seen in the upper $18s but slipped towards the low to mid $18s as the day progressed. One miner started bidding at $17.80 and eventually fixed at $18.10, while a second miner was said to be seeing $18.40 offered. The Atlantic was similarly subdued, although the underlying tone remained firm. The C3 index edged up 0.073 to $41.550, with talk of $42 being paid late last week, although details were not reported. A stronger C17 fixture late Friday also provided support, with the index increasing by $1.175 to $31.460. Overall, it was a quieter and softer start to the week, particularly in the Pacific, with market participants taking stock after last week's strong gains.

PANAMAX
Today marked a quieter start to the week, with US markets closed for Labor Day. Many participants used the time to review positions and reassess rate expectations, taking a pause to evaluate the broader market direction. Sources have explained that any rate exchanges that have occurred are broadly in-line with those seen on Friday and as a result activity has been slow. The Pacific followed a similar theme, with trading activity reported to be relatively quiet. Despite the slower pace, market sentiment was said to remain positive, particularly on the shorter Pacific trades, where bids continue to face competition from the longer-haul North Pacific and Australian routes. The Intensity (82,000 2026) coming open Yeosu end of September was reported to have fixed for one year at $22,000 with the scrubber benefit for the owner. The P5TC slipped by $157 to $21,878 which was largely attributed to the Atlantic based indices.

SUPRAMAX
A typically slow start to the week, not helped by the Labor Day holiday, however the 11TC average rose $90 to start the week at $21,267. With North America accounting for the rises last week, there were signs that the South Atlantic was now following suit, although it was only highlighted by a few sources so far.

Atlantic
The Feng Mao Hai (63,413 2017) prompt in Barranquilla was said to have fixed delivery South West Pass for a trip with grains redelivery Mediterranean at around $32,500, a 61,000-dwt open Houston fixed a trip East Mediterranean intention petcoke at $36,000 with ABGT and Ultrabulk took a 63,000-dwt basis US Gulf for a trip to East coast Mexico with grains at $21,000. The Agapi S (62,145 2012) which sailed Damietta 2 September fixed via Russian Baltic to Durban with grains at $18,000 with Ultimar and the Asparukh (56,806 2010) fixed a similar trip with Aston basis delivery passing Rotterdam around 4 September via Ust Luga redelivery South Africa at $25,500.

Asia
The Pacific Victory (63,508 2017) Bayuquan mid September was fixed for a trip via Gulf of Aden to the Mediterranean at around $24,000 by Hyundai Glovis.

HANDYSIZE
The market opened the week on a firmer note, with sentiment still largely positional across the regions. The BHSI increased by 6 points to 906, while the 7TC average gained $104 to settle at $16,303. In the Continent and Mediterranean, some pockets of activity were reported, with rates firming slightly on the back of scrap demand. The US Gulf and South Atlantic also started the week actively, as a shortening tonnage list continued to lend support to rates. Across Asia, sentiment remained positive, underpinned by a healthy balance between tonnage availability and cargo demand across the key loading regions.

Atlantic
The Rubina (39,959 2018) open Gdansk 5–6 September was fixed for a fronthaul trip, although no further details came to light. The Eastern Hawk (37,520 2020) was failed by Oldendorff for a trip delivery Antwerp via Rouen to Morocco with grains at $16,000.

 Asia
The Bright Star (36,476 2011) passing Singapore 10–13 September was fixed by Oldendorff for two to three laden legs with redelivery Singapore–Japan at $16,000. In addition, a large Handy was heard fixed from the Far East to Oman/West Coast India in the $23,000s, although further details were not disclosed.
